From September 12 to October 12, 2025, Le Miaousée presented Miaoutréal: The History of Montréal’s Cats, a pop-up exhibition exploring the long-standing relationship between Montréal and its feline residents.
Through historical photographs, local artwork, and stories, visitors journeyed through the history of cats in the city – from their arrival in Québec and appearances throughout Montréal’s past to contemporary cat culture and the important work of local rescue organizations. The exhibition also featured activities for all ages, a reading nook, special weekend programming, and a boutique showcasing cat-inspired products and work by local artists and artisans.
The response exceeded our expectations. More than 2,500 paying visitors attended the exhibition, with sold-out weekends leading us to extend its original run by an additional two weeks.
The exhibition also helped build support for the future of Le Miaousée. Alongside Miaoutréal, our community came together to help us successfully raise $15,000 through a crowdfunding campaign toward the creation of a permanent cat museum in Montréal.
Miaoutréal became an important proof of concept for Le Miaousée, demonstrating the enthusiasm for a space where cats, culture, and community come together.
